  WC2006 Day 13 - Final Day 11.08.2006

So it is all over, the WC was planned and prepared for years and is now over in a few days. We had the finals for  FSR-V in splendid sunshine on the last day of the championship today. Great racing and some very close results in some of the races. Congratulations to all the new World Champions. The FSR-V class was dominated by racers from Germany and France at this WC. Three gold medals to Germany and two to France! In addition one gold to Italy and one to the Netherlands.

As this is now winding down, we, the Norwegian Model Power Boat Association, would like to thank all the 300 participants from 30 countries who attended. It has been a pleasure to have you all as our guests and we hope you enjoyed yourself at Strandefjorden in Norway. Have a safe trip home and hope to see you all again soon!

Also, the NMPBA want to thank all the people who worked in the crew and also the staff at Strandefjorden. Without the effort from each one of you, this WC would not have been possible.

Best Regards from everyone in NMPBA

  WC2006 Day 11 09.08.2006

Weather has been a bit cloudy today, but good conditions for racing anyway.

Today we have only had 3 races which was round 2 of qualifying for FSR-V35. All the top guys improved their result in round 2. The qualification was won by Mauro Braghieri (I) with 59 laps. He was 4 laps ahead of no. 2, Walter Selyak (I) and no 3, Soeren Kratzschmar (D). Both with 55 laps, but Walter being a bit faster.

The rest of the day has been spent on practise for all the people in the finals.

We will be back tomorrow with updates on the finals for hydro and offshore. So stay tuned...

Also today we have an interview for you with one of the profiles in this sport, please click in the picture of Dave Marles below to read the interview we made.

Weather forecast:

  WC2006 Day 10 08.08.2006

The sun is back and we have had another great day at Strandefjorden!

Today we have finished qualifying for all FSR-V Junior classes as well as FSR-V 7.5 and 15 for the Seniors. In the V7.5 class we had no changes today, i.e. none of the top five managed to improve their results in the second qualifying round today. This means we have Erich Costa (F) on top with 55 laps followed by Ivan Stagnani (I) with 53 laps and Bo Zhao (CHN), also with 53 laps.

In the V15 class Dave Marles (GB) held onto his lead, although without improving today. He won the V15 qualifier with 59 laps. Close behind him we have Mauro Braghieri (I), also with 59 laps, and Erich Costa (F) with 58 laps.

Please see the Results menu for complete results.

The schedule for tomorrow includes 3 races for FSR-V35 to finalise qualifying for that class. The rest of the day tomorrow is reserved for training for all drivers in the finals. We will publish the results for the V35 class tomorrow and be back online on Thursday with Hydro and Offshore finals.

Today we are pleased to bring you an interview with Juan Carlos Arroyo from Argentina. Click on his picture to read the interview.

Weather forecast:

  WC2006 Day 9 07.08.2006

Update 18.30 PM:

So what has the day brought us? Definitely some rain, but only in the morning, the whole afternoon has been dry with great racing conditions. On the racing side we have finished the qualifiers for Offshore 15 and 35. There were some tough racing and some surprises as well. The current champion in O35, Ole Bjoern Tjugen (N) was hit by a boat in his last qualifying race, costing him a place in the finals. The top qualifiers in O35 was eventually Alessandro Oldini (I), Leif Ellingsen (N) and Leif Rasmussen (N) . As mentioned earlier today, Rune Andersen (N) won the qualifying in the 3 other offshore classes, see story and picture below.

Also, we have finished the qualifying for FSR-V3.5 today. In this class Christoph Schneider from Germany managed one more lap than in the first qualifying race, ending as no 1 qualifier with 55 laps. He is followed by Sigurd Hauenschild, also Germany with 54 laps and Arnaud Cardinale from France with 52 laps.

For full results, see the results menu.

The racing will continue tomorrow with final qualifying for FSR-V 7.5, 15 and 35

Our next person out in our interview series is Vitaly Yukkers, the team leader for the Russian FSR team at this Worlds. Click on the picture to read the interview.

The weather forecast:

                   --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 14.00 PM:

"Well, what can we say about the weather except that it has been excellent again...will it ever rain???"

That is what we said yesterday because even with a poor weather forecast we had excellent weather the last week, however, that was yesterday and today we have rain...although at the moment very little so the racers have no problems.

We would like to congratulate Rune Andersen from Norway with his performance in Offshore qualifying. He is top qualifier so far with the no 1 spot in 3 classes (Offshore 3.5, 7.5 and 15). Congratulations and all the best for the finals!

Rune Andersen, Norway

More news to come later today, we will also publish another interview with one of the profiles in this sport.

  WC2006 Day 8 06.08.2006

Well, what can we say about the weather except that it has been excellent again...will it ever rain???

Today we have seen plenty of action in the smaller offshore classes. We have finished qualifying for Offshore Junior as well as for Offshore Senior 3.5 and 7.5, check out the Results menu. Both the 3.5 and 7.5 qualifying was won by Rune Andersen from Norway. Furthermore, Rune is leading the O15 class after the first 2 rounds of qualifying and could also be top qualifier in this class tomorrow, talking about dominance!

In the junior class, top qualifier 3.5 was Jostein Smidt from Norway, followed by Karin Arnesen (N) and Andrey Tolstoguzov (RUS). It seems like the Norwegians are taking control of the Offshore classes, however, we have to wait until the finals to see if they can continue this domination. In the Junior Offshore 7.5 class Yauheni Scherbich from Belarus is top qualifier.

Weather forecast:

Tomorrow we continue qualifying for Offshore 15 and 35 as well as for FSR-V3.5. We will keep you all updated on results and photos from the action.

  WC2006 Day 7 06.08.2006

We are sorry that the news update for day seven is posted a bit late, but we had the big WC party last night which was a must do...

Again a day with great weather here at Strandefjorden for the second and last round of qualifying for hydro. The organiser and Naviga was well prepared so the races went smoothly and on time schedule. This time we also managed to post the results very fast on out website since the Naviga judges did a great job with finalising results and the required signatures (and the webmaster had the time to process the data).

Many drivers have fast boats, but does not always make it to the finishing line. Like at previous Worlds, it is necessary to get around 800 points to make it to the final, so also here, except for the H15 class where the last place for the final had 1000 points, this is the highest minimum points sum the last 4 WCs indicating that the level in this class is very high this year.

In the H3.5 class we had 2 people with the exact same result in position 8, Paul Osmond from Australia and Christer Gustavsson from Sweden. These two then had to do a rerun between themselves to decide which one of them would take the last place in the final. Below is a few pictures from the rerun. Christer Gustavsson put in a good fight and drove a very tight course, but Paul Osmond's boat was clearly faster and after a few laps Paul went into the lead and he held that until the finish securing himself a place in the finals.

As mentioned above, last night we had the big WC party. It took place in a large circus tent and about 300 people had secured places for the 3 course dinner that started at 20.00PM. At 22.00PM after dinner the party was open for all people against a small fee. So many more people joined the party. Music was provided by the famous Norwegian musician Rune Larsen, well known from many TV appearances. The mood was great and the dancing went on to the late morning...

For tomorrow (actually today, as this is posted late) we will start the second and last round of qualifying for the offshore boats. As it is a Sunday, we will start a few hours later than on the weekdays which is also good for the many people staying late at the party :-)

Weather forecast:

Stay tuned, more to come!

  WC2006 Day 6 04.08.2006

Another day with lots of sunshine, blue sky and warm  temperatures. The weather forecast seems to be not too accurate as the weather was considerably warmer than reported yesterday in the forecast.

The whole day was spent on FSR-V qualifiers. There were plenty of intense racing, some people had some problems, but there were also some very decent laps turned. In V3.5, Christoph Schneider (D)  managed to do 54 laps, there were only a few other racers that managed more laps. Dave Marles (GB) did 59 laps in V15 and Erich Costa (F) did 55 laps in V7.5. In the big class (V35) Mauro Braghieri  (I) managed to equal  Christoph Schneider's V3,5 result with 54 laps. Some of the experienced V drivers has some problems and it will be interesting to see what results qualifying round 2 will bring. This is scheduled for early next week.

Tomorrow we continue with the second and final round of hydro qualifiers, i.e. tomorrow night we will know which 8 people will race the finals next week.

Weather forecast:

  WC2006 Day 5 03.08.2006

The sun came back to Strandefjorden today and we had a nice day packed with racing. The day started off with 2 rounds of qualifying for O15. There were some very good races in this class and Rune Andersen managed to do 30 laps in one of his races today. Rune is also top qualifier so far in the O7.5 class so he has had a very good start at this WC.

After the lunch break we continued with the V class, 3.5 for juniors and seniors. The racing in this class was just as incredible as in the O15 class. A number of drivers put in very good runs with 48 or more laps, actually to get into top 3, you had to have more than 50 laps. Top senior qualifier was in the end Christoph Schneider from Germany with 54 laps. Next on the list after the first qualifying round was Arnaud Cardinale (F) with 52 laps. Actually Norway's first ever participant in an FSR-V race was Kim Arnesen (N) who did a great job considering he has never raced multi before (we do not have FSR-V racing in Norway). In the junior class, it was closer, 4 participants ended with 45 laps. On top was Mathias Hof  (D) with Neli Golavsek (Slo), James Taylor (GB) and Dean Lord (GB) close behind.

Our next person out in our interview series is Juergen Tietze, main judge in the Naviga FSR section. Click

on the picture to read the interview.

Tomorrow racing continues with the other FSR-V classes, it will be a very busy day!

For the weather we have the following forecast:

  WC2006 Day 4 02.08.2006

The day has been spent on the first 2 rounds of qualifying for the offshore classes (except the O15 class which will be run tomorrow). The weather was unfortunately not as good as yesterday with a couple of rain showers, but the forecast for the coming days is good.

A number of drivers delivered good results in some of the races today, the best race was done by Alessandro Oldini (I) who turned the only 30 lap race today (in O35). Ulf Olsson (S) missed 30 laps with only 0,75 second in one of his races.

Other drivers who turned very respectable laps were Kjell Gunnar Noddeland (N) and Alexander Solomin (RUS) in O3.5. The Norwegians dominated O7.5 with top 3 qualifiers Rune Andersen, Joern Markset and Ole Bjoern Tjugen. In O35, the best qualifiers in addition to already mentioned Alessandro Oldini (I) were Leif Rasmussen (N), Ulf Olsson (S), Knut Egil Dalene (N) and Steve Whenham (GB)

The O15 class will have its first round of qualifying tomorrow morning before we start the FSR-V class.

The drivers have been disciplined today without any major incidents. We hope this will continue and that all drivers will show discipline and respect for the other competitors for the rest of the event.

The weather forecast for the next days are as follows:

Also, we have today the first of several interviews with people in this sport, first out is Peter Schaft, section leader for FSR in Naviga. Click on the picture to read more.

  WC2006 Day 3 01.08.2006

The first day of racing was kicked off today in beautiful sunshine (and perfect water).

Today saw the first 2 qualification rounds in hydro, the racing kicked off in style at 08.00AM in perfect weather conditions. This marked the debut for a computer based race management system at a Naviga FSR World Championship. The Norwegian Model Power Boat Association has, together with Rob Nelson from bbk software (http://www.bbksoftware.com) developed a race management system specifically for model speed boat racing, covering all the different requirement for hydro, offshore and enduro racing. The computerized timing worked to perfection without any incidents. Most of the racing also went well without too many incidents, however, a few crashes occured which could have been avoided. We hope the drivers will cool down their nerves for the next round of qualifying.

Tomorrow the racing continues with the first rounds of qualifying for the offshore classes. We will be online with more news and photos + results.

  WC2006 starting today 30.07.2006
