A word with Vitaly Yukkers 07.08.2006

Vitaly Yukkers is team leader for Russia at this WC, he found the time for a few words with us in between a very busy schedule:

Name: Vitaly Yukkers

Country: Russia

City: Khanty-Mansiysk

When did you get started with model speed boats:

I got started with model speed boats 1990, my first boat was my own design, a 3.5cc hydro with a Russian MDS stock engine.

What made you start with this hobby:

I was flying line control combat planes, then our team stopped and I started looking for something new to do. I had seen some drawings of Swedish and Russian hydros so as an engineer I started to make my own designs. Shortly thereafter I started to build my own designed hydros in plywood. Then in 1993/94 we started a club in my hometown and we now have 9 members actively doing model speed boat racing. I also have the opportunity to teach at our school for kids between 8 and 16 and in these classes show them model speed boats.

What does your wife say about your hobby:

I have been married for 25 years and my wife is very nice to me so I can spend time on this hobby!

Your best race:

The race I remember the best is probably my very first race which was in the Russian Championship in 1990.

Your worst race:

The WC in Poland in 2002, everything broke down, it was terrible!!

What would you be doing if not model speed boats:

Fishing (on ice covered lakes where you drill holes to fish)
