A word with Sigurd Hauenschild 11.08.2006

Sigurd is one of the most successful German FSR-V drivers, we caught him during a barbeque at the camping for a short interview:

Name: Sigurd Hauenschild

Country: Germany

City: Hannover

When did you get started with model speed boats:

I started in 1978 and did my first race the same year in FSR-V3.5

What made you start with this hobby:

When I was a teenager I had some electro boats (not race boats), then a friend of me showed me a nitro race boat in 1977 and after seeing it on the water I also wanted one. The funny part to that story is that my friend stopped with model boats after one year while I have kept going ever since. After racing the V3.5 for some time, I also started with V7.5 and later also V15. Basically I have been racing since 1978. I have always raced FSR-V, but I also raced hydros for a few years, actually I have 4 German championships in hydro.

My boats are my own design, it is really getting advanced these days with the materials and the methods for producing them. In addition I also do work on the motors myself.

A great thing with this sport is that you get so many friends from many countries. I have now friends all over the place and I really enjoy to go to international races every summer and meet friends with the same interest. Always lots to talk about!

What does your wife say about your hobby:

I currently only have my son to take care of and he also started with model speed boats in 1998, he is also racing and it is really nice to go together to races and work as a team.

Your best race:

I have been world champion in V7.5 and also have several 2nd places at the Worlds, but my best race was definitely the V7.5 final in Slovenia at the 2004 WC. For 30 minutes we had 3-4 boats right next to each other, it was extremely exciting and tough. In the end I was number 2, but that does not matter, it was a perfect race for me!!

Your worst race:

I forget the bad days very fast, so no idea :-)

What would you be doing if not model speed boats:

At the moment I love doing model speed boating, no time for other sports.
