A word with Jürgen Tietze 03.08.2006

Jürgen Tietze is currently main judge for FSR in Naviga. We had a few words with Jürgen :

Name: Jürgen Tietze

Country: Germany

When did you get started with model speed boats:

I first started in 1958 with teethered control line racing boats (no radio control then), racing in the 2.5cc and 5cc classes. In 1962 I stopped when I had to do my military service. Later I got into car racing for some time. Then when my father died in 1977 I inherited all his model boat things and I got into the hobby again. In 1980 I started with FSR-V racing.

What made you start with this hobby:

I think I have "oil and gasolin" in my veins and when I inherited the model boat things from my father, plus that we had a local club and lake etc. I got into it very much. Now I have been to every WC since 1982. Also after getting into Naviga, I have now been a Judge there since 1992. In addition I have also been vice president in Nauticus (the German federation) for all sports classes from 1996 to 2004.

What does your wife say about your hobby:

Other men do other hobbies, we do this sport and we find an arrangement that works.

Your best race:

I was "vize weltmeister" (second place) in FSR-V35 at the WC in Ostiglia in Italy in 1986.

Your worst race:

I really like to drive my boat so for me every race gives me pleasure.

What would you be doing if not model speed boats:

Formula One!!!
